Make Your Mark | We Are Warriors
Client: We Are Warriors (WAW) is a social enterprise designed to increase representation of Indigenous role models. It’s built on a partnership between Nooky, a game-changing Indigenous activist, and an agency (R/GA) determined to build a more human future. It connects global brands with Australia’s most important cultural and societal issue – equity for First Nations people. Each year WAW hosts Blak Powerhouse at the Powerhouse Museum on 26th January (Invasion Day), a one day takeover designed to turn a day of sorrow into one of power and positivity. It is for all ages, mob, allies and advocates. It features live music, dance, art, live talks, workshops, markets, food and DJs. Most importantly it’s a place that cultivates Blak power and joy.
Brief: People who attend Blak Powerhouse enjoy it, it’s bold and frenetic, but they don’t always “join the WAW” - meaning signing up to hear more, following WAW on socials or buying merchandise. How can we get people to go deeper? We want you to curate and design an experience in one of the rooms at Blak Powerhouse to help visitors “join the WAW”.
Insight: Blak Powerhouse sparks a desire for involvement, but without a clear, rewarding pathway, attendees remain passive.
Idea: By offering a valuable and engaging experience, we can convert sign-ups into active participation.
Execution: We aim to create an experience that attendees of Blak Powerhouse can directly contribute to, using their action to create a literal statement. Our exhibition is a collaborative mural, titled “Make Your Mark” that allows attendees to contribute alongside Indigenous artists to create a larger piece symbolizing unity, with the finished artwork being a tangible representation of the strength and solidarity within the movement for Aboriginal empowerment. The room begins empty and as the day continues, it is filled bit-by-bit with art and then, at the day’s conclusion, the final message is revealed.
